‘As each one does their part, we grow in love’

Spring Term 2024

Spring 2 Update

Year One have had an exciting half term filled with lots of learning. We really enjoyed World Book Week, where we interviewed animals and wrote our own interviews as a result. In Maths, we have been working hard on learning about Place Value within 50 and how to measure and compare lengths, heights and mass. In PE, we have been working on our Team Work skills and learning how to work together and communicate to achieve a task. We have been learning about Scientists and Inventors in Science and we found Ole Christiansen particularly interesting as he created Lego. We have been learning about China in Geography and comparing it to Winterbourne Earls. We even got to try out some authentic Chinese cooking, which we all thought was delicious!

Spring Term 1

This term has been a short but busy one in Cherry Class! We have started our new learning based on the topic 'Land Ahoy!'. In English, we studied the Pirate Cruncher and used this to create our own pirate descriptions. We then went on to using the narrative 'Pirates Love Underpants' to create our own pirate stories.

In Maths, we have been learning about place value and adding and subtracting within 20. Really focusing on securing our number bonds to 10 and 20 and being able to use different methods to add and subtract numbers.

In Science, our topic has been Animals Including Humans - we have learnt about the different body parts and how these relate to our five senses. We also explored the different animal groups: mammals, reptiles, amphibians, birds and fish, as well as looking at animal diets.

In PE, we have been developing our flexibility and balance in our Yoga sessions as well as applying our knowledge of gymnastics shapes when using a range of equipment, including the wall bars!

We went on a local area fieldwork walk (thanks again to the parents that helped) and explored the human and physical features of Winterbourne so that we could compare it to Mogadishu, Somalia as part of our Geography learning.

The children have made a fantastic start to 2024 and we can't wait to see what more they will achieve next half term in Cherry Class!

Have a wonderful break and we will see you back in school on Tuesday 20th February 2024.
