‘As each one does their part, we grow in love’

2024 Summer Term

Celebrating Summer Term 2.

Another busy term with lots of successes to celebrate and feel proud of.

We have enjoyed learning all about Sir David Attenborough and capturing his many achievements in a biography, using what we have learnt from him to write a persuasive letter to save our green space and understanding more about the different coasts around the UK (past and present).

We have completed our Year 2 maths curriculum and spent time revisiting various concepts to ensure that we are ready for Key Stage 2.

We have taken advantage of breaks in the weather to learn new racket skills and are very keen to progress these skills – Wimbledon here we come!

We are very proud of our SATs results which showcased that each and every one of us has made super progress this year.

Two highlights have definitely been our whole school festival, ‘Fox Fest 2024’ when we enjoyed a whole day of festival crafts, traditional games and dancing!  We made sure that we were festival ready by tie-dying our own t-shirts to ensure we looked the part!

The second highlight was our trip to Lepe Beach where we consolidated our learning around coastal processes and beach habitats. The trip wouldn’t have been complete without a paddle and an ice lolly to celebrate our time in year 2 together!

Celebrating Summer Term 1

We have packed so much into this first summer term with our ‘Green Fingers’ topic where we explored different seeds, bulbs and conditions required for healthy plants. We are keenly monitoring the growth of our own sunflowers and have been carefully observing the different parts of plants to identify, sketch and even replicate in clay.

Jack and the Beanstalk has inspired our writing this half term with some wonderful diary entries as we took on the role of Jack, followed by the creation of some super descriptive plant shape poetry.

Our maths learning has seen us master fractions and work hard to tell the time and apply our knowledge to solving problems. We have enjoyed practising yoga and honing our striking and fielding skills in our PE lessons, learning how to keep safe in PSHE and in our computing lessons we have been classifying and recording data using pictograms.

Our top highlights of the term have been both our fantastic trip to Beaulieu where we were able to further our understanding of how transport had developed over time and compare and contrast the lives of children now to that of the Victorian era. Then ending the term with a fascinating space themed science week where we had the opportunity to visit the Wonderdome, create our own mini rockets, find out about the history of space exploration,  conduct an investigation into meteor ejecta patterns, present our learning in the form of non-chronological reports, taste ‘space food’ and even embark on our own astronaut training camp run by our friends in Year 6!

We are looking forward to next term!
