‘As each one does their part, we grow in love’

Spring 2023

Spring Term 2 Update

This term has been full of learning and fun in Cherry Class!

We have really enjoyed learning about real life heroes and have had visits from the Fire Service and a paramedic.

In English, we have written letters inviting our own real life heroes to a tea party and we have written a diary entry in role as Grace Darling. We learnt about Grace Darling's life and why she is considered a hero in history.

In Maths, we have looked at place value within 50, adding and subtracting to 20 and how to measure length and height.

In Science, we have completed our learning on Animals Including Humans and have learnt about different animal diets, the 5 human senses and the parts of the human body.

We have been learning how to send and receive in PE, as well as developing our team work skills through a range of co-operative games and activities.

During Computing lessons, we have been learning how to use a computer (Chromebook) in different ways and about all of its different functions.

In DT, we have practised making moving pictures - we explored moving picture books and created our own versions of the different mechanisms.

During RE lessons, we have been learning about the Easter Story and thinking about why Easter is important to Christians.

Overall, a busy and productive half term in Cherry Class. The children have done so well and are really taking ownership of their learning and showing an understanding of how to demonstrate good learning behaviours.

I hope you all have a wonderful Easter break and look forward to seeing what adventures await us in the Summer Term!

Spring Term 1 Update

We have had a busy term in Cherry Class!

The children have been working really hard to get as much learning in as possible in this short term.

In English, we have been writing our own Superhero story based on 'Supertato'. All of the children have really enjoyed this learning and challenged themselves to do their best in their own narrative writing. They should be incredibly pleased of what they have achieved!

In Maths, we have been working on numbers to 20. In place value we have been ordering numbers, finding 1 more and 1 less, comparing numbers and looking at tens and ones. In our addition, we have been adding numbers using our number bonds, looking at number bonds to 20 and adding using a number line.

As part of our Science learning, animals including humans, we have been learning about the different animal groups and the characteristics of each of these. We have also talked about which animals would make good pets and what they need to survive.

In Geography, we have been learning about the seven continents of the world (ask your child to sing you the song!), the countries in the UK and their capital cities. We have looked at the human and physical features of our local area on a welly walk and compared them to Edinburgh in Scotland.

In Art, we have focused on the work of Piet Mondrian and his work on neoplasticism. The children critiqued some artwork, attempted the techniques that he used and then created their own work in his style.

In Computing, the children have been learning how to programme using Scratch Jr. and in Music they have been working on their beat and rhythm.

In PE, we have had a whole term focus on gymnastics. The children started off by practising their shape and balance on the ground and then we introduced equipment, including the wall bars which were a big hit!

We also had our trip to Wyvern St Edmunds for the Fundamentals Festival. The children had a wonderful afternoon taking part in lots of different PE activities run by sports leaders from the school.

Have a wonderful half term and we look forward to seeing you on Tuesday 21st January.
