Summer Term 2
What a Summer Term we have had in Cherry Class! The children have all been working really hard in all areas of the curriculum. They did a brilliant job during the Phonics Screening Check and really showed off their reading skills during this time. They learnt about David Attenborough in English and wrote their own biographies demonstrated everything they knew about him. The children have been learning how to tell the time and how to count money in Maths. In Science, we have been reviewing all of our learning so far in Year 1 and the children recalled their learning brilliantly. We celebrated Foxfest on Friday 12th July and the children looked amazing in all their festival gear. We enjoyed making festival headbands and bracelets and even did the conga as a whole class! We finished the term on a high with our wonderful beach trip to Lepe Country Park. The children got to learn all about coastal processes, paddle in the water and even have an ice cream!
Year 1 Summer 1
The highlight of our half term has definitely been our fantastic trip to Beaulieu! The children had a wonderful day learning about life in a Victorian house and also about the history of travel through the ages. The children got to experience what life was like for boys and girls during the Victorian times and also got to sit in an old-fashioned car and learn about how transport has changed. We have been learning about Plants in Science and have really enjoyed watching our broad bean seeds grow. The children have filled in weekly bean diaries to show the change over time of their plants. In Maths we have worked hard on Multiplication and Division, learning how to group and share objects and also count in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s. We have focused a lot on the Jack and the Beanstalk text in English and written our own diary entries in role as Jack! We finished off the half term with an amazing science week focusing on Space! The children got to experience a planetarium in the Wonderdome and created their own straw-powered rockets, chalk art planets and carried out an investigation into moon craters! We also learnt how to be an astronaut and took part in ‘Astronaut Training Camp’ as well as creating information texts on how to become an astronaut! Overall a wonderful and exciting term for the children in Cherry Class!
