Spring Term 2025

Curriculum Bubbles Spring 2 2025

Spring 2

What a fantastic term we have had in Cherry Class! Although it happened at the end of term, I think we should start by mentioning our AMAZING trip to Longleat in the last week of term. The children had the chance to consolidate all of their learning about Animals Including Humans and got the opportunity to see, handle and explore a range of different animals. A fantastic day was enjoyed by all! The children have worked incredibly hard this term and covered a lot of learning. In Maths we have been Adding and Subtracting within 20, learning about numbers to 50 and exploring length, height, weight and mass. In English, we used the text ‘Lost in the Toy Museum’ to write our own stories based on the book. In PE, we have been learning how to send and receive accurately, thinking about how to aim and pass successfully to a partner. We also had book week in the middle of term in which the children explored the poem ‘On the Ning Nang Nong’ and used it as a template to explore rhyming words and create their own, which are now proudly on display in the library. The children created some wonderful pieces of artwork based on the Easter Story, using oil pastels and masking tape to create some spectacular pictures. They learnt the Easter Story during their RE lessons and even had a special visit from Georg, the school chaplain, who explored the story through a Sounds of Easter workshop. As you can see, a very busy term for Year 1 and we hope that the children have a well deserved and restful Easter Break with their families. We look forward to another exciting term in Summer 1!

Spring Term 1

This term, we have been learning all about the weather and how it can affect our lives. We started off the term by reading the text 'Meerkat Mail' in English and writing our own postcards to Sunny, the meerkat, to explain what the weather is like where we live. We then used the text 'Penguin Huddle' to introduce a colder climate and focused on Antarctic animals. We created information texts about these animals and published them for our WOW Work Wall. In Maths, we have been learning how to add and subtract numbers within 20 and have used different mathematical models and pictorial representations to help us such as; part, part whole, bar model and number lines. In Science, we have been learning all about animals - discovering the names for the different animal groups, sorting animals based on their characteristics and learning about the human body and its senses. In PE, we have focused on gymnastics skills - learning the basic shapes and being able to perform them as part of a sequence of movement. In Geography, we looked at different weather types, recorded the weather each week in our school and compared the climate in the Sahara Desert and Antarctica. We created digital artwork of the Northern Lights within our Computing learning - using the Paintz.app to investigate a range of digital artwork tools.

Overall, we have had a busy and exciting term in Cherry Class - the children have learnt lots and worked hard to make some good progress.

Wishing all children and families a wonderful half term and we look forward to welcoming you back on Monday 24th February 2025.
