‘As each one does their part, we grow in love’

2026 Spring Term

Spring term curriculum overview

Celebrating Spring Term 1

We enjoyed allowing our creativity to run wild as we spent time writing imaginative, setting descriptions of mysterious and wonderful lands, and practising our oracy skills.  We had to adapt to a completely new style of writing when we had to produce precise instructions detailing how to make fruit skewers – which we designed and produced as part of our design and technology learning.  We had first-hand experience of what can go wrong if instructions aren’t clear when our first attempts were followed in to make a jam sandwich…watching jam butter being spread on the table by hand because we forgot to explain that a knife and plate was required certainly focused our minds!

In maths we completed our unit learning about money with lots of practical application of calculating change and working out how much shopping we could afford! We are now getting on well with learning about multiplication and division which we will be continuing with next half term.

We hope that you will enjoy looking at examples of our science work, where we have been exploring what different animals need to thrive and survive. We have also looked at our own lives thinking about healthy eating, exercise and hygiene.

In gymnastics we have looked at shape and balance and how to incorporate these in different ways on a variety of apparatus. Whilst in ‘Target games’ we have been refining our skills and balancing power with accuracy – we particularly enjoyed applying this to tri-golf skills.

We welcomed a visitor to our RE lessons to help us further understand life as a Muslim and answer some of our questions about the Islamic faith – please have a look at our photos.

Our second visitor was ‘Farmer Chris’ from a local arable farm, who kindly helped us in our quest to answer our geography enquiry question about where our food comes from and the impact that climate has on farming.

There have been many other highlights, including the visiting pantomime at the very beginning of the term, World Faith Day and our participation in 'SuperKind' to name but a few!

Celebrating Spring Term 2

This term has felt like a whirlwind!  We have covered so much in such a short period of time!

History was the driver for this half term, specifically exploring different sources to learn all about the Great Fire of London and using this new found knowledge in our English lessons to create non-chronological reports, informing our readers of the cause of the fire, why it spread so quickly, why it was so difficult to stop and why, looking back, it is considered such a significant event. We also found out about Samuel Pepys and created our own diary entries imagining what it may have been like living through the Great Fire.

Our maths learning focused on length, height, mass, capacity and temperature which allowed us to gain many practical skills as well as an opportunity to apply our learning to solve problems.

We concluded our science topic looking at animals, including humans, with some surprising findings about germs and how they are spread… it is safe to say we will all be washing our hands thoroughly before eating! Just look at the photographs of our bread investigation to see why!

Linked to our science, our PE lessons were used to help us explore ways in which to improve our fitness and also as a chance to learn ‘tri-golf’.  We enjoyed learning putting and driving techniques and putting them into practice in a mini-tournament.  Our increased fitness was certainly needed during our special orienteering afternoon where we engaged in some fun, fast paced map reading skills!

In our art unit we learnt about different sculptors and the materials they used to create their work.  We tried to replicate their work using a variety of different materials and techniques from bread dough to sugar cubes and even soap!

As if this wasn’t enough, we also enjoyed World Book Week during which we focused on adventurers and explorers.  We were inspired by Tom Percival’s book ‘The Bridges’ to create ‘Planet Kindness’ and write our own narratives with super descriptions and morals.
