‘As each one does their part, we grow in love’

Autumn1 2025

Celebrating Autumn 1

In our Autumn1 term, we started by exploring our feelings and writing sentences inspired by The Colour Monster. We went on to learn about Paddington moving in with The Brown Family. We recited the story together using a story map to help us remember the story, and then wrote our own versions using whole sentences, recall and using our growing phonic knowledge to help us. Our science work on materials (where, among other experiments, we found out the astronauts wear nappies, and tested various materials to see what would be the most absorbent), inspired our final written work of the term - an information leaflet about a material of our choice. Did you know that, when lightning hits sand, it make glass?

We spent lots of time playing with numbers up to 10 - looking at number bonds, doubles, adding and subtracting. We met the cherry model (which we particularly love because of the name) and also started to use number lines to help us explore the order of numbers and jump between them. We had great fun learning to play Dotty Six and "I'm thinking of a number...".

We learnt about the properties of many different materials in science - looking at why some fabrics keep us warm, and understanding what materials various everyday items are made of.

In PE, we explored jumping and hopping, building up to skipping (both French skipping and ropes) and also learned piratical dance routines.

We found North with compasses, used maps to track down our class mascot and discovered that Geography is the study of people and places. We learnt about land uses in our local area and created our own landscape pictures.
