‘As each one does their part, we grow in love’

Autumn Term 25-26

Autumn 1

What a fabulous start to Year 5! The children have done amazingly well settling into all things new, from teachers to buildings!! During Autumn Term 1, Year 5 have been enjoying learning all about rivers. We wandered down to the local ford and compared how two locations of the same river (River Bourne) compare in width, depth and flow velocity. We also explored which organisms are found in the two locations, as well as litter. To link to our topic learning, the children wrote beautiful figurative poems, based on 'The Dreadful Menace' through the perspective of their character, 'River' using an ABCB rhyming pattern. We then moved onto looking at the wonders of the Water Cycle and after creating our own water cycles in bags, wrote up narrative pieces about our water droplet characters living this event. In DT, Year 5 looked at bridge structures and materials. From their learning they trialed different structural properties using paper and then uncooked spaghetti, before moving onto their final pieces being constructed out of wood. Although an eight week term, it feels like it has flown by...

We look forward to starting fresh for Autumn 2.

Have a restful half term!
