‘As each one does their part, we grow in love’

Autumn Term 2025-26

Maths Puzzles

Just because it is the last day of term, it doesn't mean the work stops! We tried tackling this tricky problem today. Why not have a go at home too!

We have been learning about mosaics as part of our 'Sculpture' project in Autumn 2. Our final task was to design and make our own Mosaic coaster tiles. (We just need to grout them in January and they can come home!)

Romans - Hadrian's Wall

Whilst learning about Hadrian's Wall (built by Roman Emperor Hadrian to protect the outer reaches of the Roman empire) the children were challenged to replicate the different structure found along the wall which helped defend it.

Football with James the Sports Coach

Our Friday PE this half term is football. We will be working with our external sports coach James. Today was week two and despite the rain we had a great session working on our close control in the hall.

Y4 Trip to Fishbourne Roman Palace

Today, Y4 visited Fishbourne Roman Palace to kick off their Roman Topic for the Autumn 2 term. Whilst no longer 'a palace' (which surprised many of the children) it is a hugely important site for understanding Roman Britain and our visit will be the beginning of lots of our learning over the next 7 weeks.

Thank you to our parent helpers who came with us - Sorry there was no coffee shop open!

Conducting Geographical Research

On Friday, we went on a walk through Winterbourne Earls and Winterbourne Dauntsey to collect data for our geography project. We created our own criteria for deciding if a street was a 'high quality street' then ranked different places around the village.

Back at school, we have plotted this information to test hypothesis such as. The further a road is from the main road (A338) the higher quality the street will be.

Tri Golf Competition

A lovely morning out for a group of Y4 today who went to the Y4 try Golf competition. A great time had by all!

Biscuit Making!

We had great fun on Thursday making our own biscuits. The children worked in pairs to measure, mix and combine ingredients before rolling and cutting their brilliant biscuits! Hopefully some of them made it home for families to try!

To get their DT unit off to a sugary start, the children tasted a range of biscuits today. We discussed their smell, appearance, texture and taste.

We also explored the packaging and how products can be designed for specific 'Target audiences'.

Science - Circuits

Our Science unit this term is Electricity. The children were given the time to explore and share their scientific understanding of the  components we had before they were challenged to make and test predictions.

We finished with some digital circuit making on the laptops.

The start of the year is all about rebuilding friendships ans relationships after a long summer apart. Today, the children had to work together to create a 'machine' which accomplished specific jobs such as 'wash and fold a sheet' or 'a dinner making machine'.

We're not sure Dragon's Den will be calling...but the children still had fun!
