‘As each one does their part, we grow in love’

2025 Summer Term

Please have a look at the curriculum overviews for the half-terms to see what we are learning.  Remember to pop back at the end of each term to celebrate with us.

Celebrating Summer Term 2

As the end of the academic year draws to a close it has been wonderful to reflect on the past term and indeed year.

Our history enquiry of ‘How has our village changed?’ proved to have been a fascinating topic. We have enjoyed learning about the rich history of our village, through looking at photographs, reading first-hand accounts, meeting with members of the Bourne Valley Historical Society and conducting our own research.  Our findings have driven our writing units resulting in a narrative entitled ‘Tales from the Clock Tower’ and information posters that allowed us to share our learning with others.

We were able to apply our learning from our art lessons and produce a piece of art, depicting village life from the early 1900s, in the style of LS Lowry.

In maths we have been learning about how to compile and interpret statistics as well as learning about position and direction.  We have also spent valuable time consolidating and stretching our understanding of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

PE lessons this term have seen us honing our athletics abilities that were put to good use at our super Sports Day as well as developing our tennis skills.

In Computing we have been furthering our understanding of programming and have enjoyed working with our Year 6 friends who generously shared their knowledge with us.

Another highlight of the term was definitely our trip to Mudeford to learn all about water safety from both the RNLI and National Coastguard Institute.  We learnt both how to stay safe near water, gained a greater appreciation of the invaluable work of these organisations as well as enjoyed a ride on the ferry and land train.  Of course, no trip to the beach would have been complete without a paddle and an ice-cream!

We have all worked hard, played hard and are ready for the challenges of Year 3.

Celebrating Summer 1

It has been a short term but we have certainly managed to achieve a lot!

Our geography topic has introduced us to Kampong Ayer, the world’s largest water village.  We have enjoyed comparing and contrasting the geography of Kampong Ayer with that of our local area.  Our learning informed our English lessons in which we have written to the Sultan of Brunei in an attempt to persuade him to end deforestation.  We even channelled our inner rainforest animals to prepare and conduct interviews to gain an animal’s perspective of deforestation!

Our maths has focussed on fractions where we have been applying our learning to practical situations and noticing how, again, our times-table knowledge is so important.

The weather has been kind to us so we have been mastering the skills needed for cricket, specifically batting, bowling and fielding.  This has been great fun and we are looking forward to continuing to develop these skills as we progress through the school.

Art this half term has focussed on portraits, from line-drawing through to creating Andy Warhol Pop Art inspired self-portraits.

We ended the half term we Science Week, where we were ‘Materials Detectives’ and were set to work investigating the property and suitability of different materials.  Our challenge was to investigate the most suitable materials to build a marble run from along with the additional challenge of seeing how close to a 15 second run we could achieve. As part of Science Week, we were delighted to welcome Year 4 pupils from Chafyn Grove School who demonstrated the properties of different materials, plus helped us to investigate the light spectrum.  Our trip to the Year 6 Science Fair along with a session with the Science Boffins made for an interesting and exciting end of term!
