    Celebrating Summer Term 1

Our visit to Marwell Zoo was a great way to start the summer term. It was great to see so many different animals, learn about their habitats and how they have adapted to live in their natural environment. Our workshop taught us all about how to look for clues to track animals and find out more about them.

Animals and their habitats were very much on our minds during our study of Kampong Ayer which included learning all about the deforestation of the rainforests. We even wrote to the Sultan of Kampong Ayer to try and persuade him to end deforestation.  On a lighter note, we also practised our interview skills, thinking about types of questions to imagine what it must feel like to be an animal living in the rainforest, and we expressed this using a ‘show not tell technique’ in our writing.

Thankfully, it has not been as hot here as it is in Kampong Ayer so we have enjoyed some great PE – we have been learning Parkour as part of developing strength and balance. We were also fortunate to have the opportunity to work with a Sports Coach to practise striking and fielding skills, putting them into practise in mini-cricket matches.

Our art unit saw us develop a range of skills where we were inspired by different portrait artists. We tried collage to create abstract portraits like Picasso, Pop art self-portraits inspired by Andy Warhol and even line drawing, like Paul Klee to show movement.

We have all continued to make great progress with both our learning, have grown as individuals and were proud to share our learning with our families during our end-of-term worship.
