Week 5 - 5th July

On Monday we did our first lesson on a video from the Literacy Shed, The Lighthouse. We were learning to use synonyms, similes, coordination and subordination. In PE, we played cricket in the afternoon with the whole class and it was tons of fun.

We started our days off with guided reading, listening to our book letters from the lighthouse.

This week was very exciting with England reaching the final of Euro 2020! We are very excited for Sunday!

In RE, we did some brilliant art in RE with Mrs Tucker to represent ‘What God looks like to us?’ Take a look at our fantastic work below.

Week 4

We have had another lovely week, full of fantastic learning from all of the class. This week, we wrote our stories based on the book we have been reading called Rose Blanche. The children have written some fantastic stories, using their targets to help ensure their writing includes the correct grammar and punctuation. Take a look at some of our work below!

Week 3

This week, we had our WW2 Day on Monday. We worked in teams to create Anderson Shelters and tried to solve code problems to escape the escape room! In the afternoon, we had a visit from Captain Jepp who taught us all about the changes to army equipment since WW2. He even made us hot chocolate and gave us ‘army’ sweets!

In science we planned and carried out an investigation to test electrical conductors and insulators.

On Friday, Major Button visited us to talk all about the battles of WW2 in Europe and the Pacific. It was amazing and we all learned so much!

Week 6

Summer Term Week 5

This week in English, we have been learning all about Emperor penguins. What interesting facts can you remember?

In Maths, we have been continuing with decimals, fractions and decimals. In science, we have learned about different life cycles. In art, we printed birds using our cardboard tiles. Take a look at our lovely work below!

Summer Week 4

This week has been a brilliant week! We have been writing our own stories and letters related to the Nowhere Emporium story that we have been studying. The quality of our writing has been amazing! We wrote letters back from Daniel to his friend Layla to tell her all about his adventures. We tried to apply all our sentence types we had practiced and were really successful. Take a look at our FAB work below!

In Maths, we have persevered with percentages, fractions and decimals with great success! In art, we began designing printing tiles and used these to print plants. In Science, we started to learn about how different classifications of animals reproduce. This will lead onto some more learning and art related to birds next week. In cricket, we played a match which really helped us to learn the rules and work as a team with our batting buddy.

Well done to Thomas and Esme who were our stars of the week this week!

Summer Term Week 3

This week we had a 4 day week due to bank holiday. In English, we continued with our sentence stacking lessons using the book, The Nowhere Emporium. In Maths, we have been learning all about decimals, fractions and percentages. In art, we collected natural items and began to experiment with printing them. We tried to layer different colours and see what effect it had. In Geography, we began to look at OS maps and recognise the symbols used.

Well done to Isla and Ollie C who were our stars of the week!

Summer Term Week 2

This week we have been extremely busy learning all about different sentence structures we can use in our writing. We have used the book, 'The Nowhere Emporium' as inspiration for our writing. We freeze framed some of the main scenes we read about- see our pictures below. In whole class reading, we have been reading 'The Boy in the Tower'. This book has stimulated lots of theories about who The Bluchers are! After a slow start, the story is picking up pace and we can't wait to read more!

In Maths, we have been converting between fractions and decimals. Can you remember the decimals for 1/10? 1/100? 1/2? 1/4? 1/5?

In science, we revised the parts of the plant we already know and then looked specifically at the parts of a plant which make it able to reproduce. We sketched plants and labelled their main parts. See some of the amazing sketches below!

In Art, we have looked at printing techniques and will be using these skills throughout the term to print plants and flowers.

Well to Phoebe who was our star of the week this week!
