‘As each one does their part, we grow in love’

Summer Term 2020

20th May

The children have been working in The Den again this week completing maths activities. They have been absolutely fantastic and showed great resilience and perseverance when it got tricky. We have now finished these 'activities' so everything will be back to normal after the holidays.

In Science we have been looking at habitats around the world. We talked about what a habitat is, why specific animals live there and then the children designed their own habitat for real animals.

In Athletics we had 4 more activities - long jump, high jump, skipping and balancing. We have been preparing for sports day next term!

On Thursday morning we had our class treat - a making morning. It was fantastic! Thank you for all the recycling. Anything that was left over we recycled at school. The children particularly loved the junk modelling. We also had fossil sketching, special watercolour painting and various other making tasks.

Have a super half term, see you in June!

13th  May

This week we have been completing lots of our work in pairs and groups. The weather has been fantastic so we have also had lots of outdoor learning. The children have also been continuing with their Stone Age projects. A  maths task lots of the children enjoyed was Beat the teacher!

In Athletics we learned how to throw a shot put correctly, perform in a relay team, the importance of agility (jumping, hopping etc) and sprinting as fast as possible. Year 1 and 2 moved around the 4 activities in mixed groups. Next week they will complete 4 different activities.

On Friday we had our trip to Salisbury Museum. We had an amazing day! First of all thank you to everyone who volunteered to help - we couldn't have done it without you. The day was split in to two sessions. In the first session we were archeologists, artists and game makers. During this session we also saw a real mammoth tooth - it was massive! After lunch we went into the Wessex Gallery. We were able to see lots of artefacts including skeletons of Amesbury Archer and a dog. We also had to be researchers and did some role play too. Kate (a volunteer at the Museum) said how wonderful the children were. Well done everyone.

29th April 2019

This week the children have been fab!

In Maths we have been learning about fractions - it's been amazing to see the success of the children. We've been learning to find fractions of amounts using the bar model. We've found 1/4, 1/2, 1/3 and 3/4. Today we were solving problems involving fractions. Well done everyone - a super week!

In English we have started our Stone Age project. Everyday we are learning and researching an area of the Stone Age and then creating a page for our booklet. This will be ongoing over the next few weeks. So far we have looked at where they lived and stone tools.

We've had two PE lessons this week - a Netball session which is continuing every week and our last yoga session. Next week we will starting athletics on a Wednesday.

This afternoon the class created Stonehenge with Mrs Bravery out of biscuits. It was AMAZING!

Have a super long weekend. See you Tuesday.

Tuesday 23rd April 2019

Welcome back! Our new topic, as you have probably heard, is STONE AGE! On Tuesday we had an exploratory day looking at pictures and artefacts. We then made Stone Age cone people and decided what we would like to learn about. We came up with so many questions - Mrs Baker is going to be very busy planning!

On Wednesday and Thursday morning the class participated in a reading trial as we had been randomly selected to take part. They were absolutely fantastic and all tried their best. They were super excited to be given a pencil (with a rubber on it) and a certificate at the end of the day.

In Maths over the next few weeks we wil be learning about fractions. We are starting off with 1/2 and 1/4 (revision from year 1) and we will be moving to 1/3 and 3/4. This year we also need to find fractions of amounts.

Although it has only been 4 days, the children are already very tired. Have a lovely weekend and see you on Monday.
