Mrs Johnson, our Librarian/Storyteller runs a Storytelling Club for Year 2 on a Monday lunchtime from 12.30-12.55. This will be starting again after the October half-term holiday.
This has proven to be a popular club with many children returning for further terms. Much fun has been had as the children invent all sorts of wonderful and amazing characters and story locations as they use their imaginations to come up with stories to share with the group. Several storytelling games are played as well, such as "Mirror Me"; "Yes Let's...."; "Fortunately, Unfortunately"; "Story Character Chair"; "Never-ending Sentence" and many more besides.
During the course of the Club, the children learn to tell stories orally, using a mix of drama and movement. Occasionally props and puppets may be used in addition to solely imagination.
The Art of Storytelling is an important part of language development, communication and enhances imagination. The children should grow in confidence as they learn techniques to enable them to tell a story in front of their peers.
