Curriculum overview summer term

July 2018

We've had a brilliant end to the school year. We have written and performed audio guides about Winterbourne Earls and enjoyed learning about shape and space in maths.

We have enjoyed the hot weather and are looking forward to a well earned summer break.

Mrs Crompton says she has loved teaching us this year and hopes we all have an amazing holiday!

June 2018

June has been another fun packed month. We have had lots of trips and sporting activities to enjoy.

We have been linking our Literacy work with our topic on Winterbourne and Salisbury and have written information leaflets and stories set in Salisbury Cathedral. We were also treated to a fantastic guided walk from Winterbourne historical society and learnt a lot about our local history. We will use this information to write an audio guide for visitors.

Mr Sainsbury has been teaching us about light in Science and we have enjoyed his experiments.

In Maths we have been learning about statistics and angles and will link this with shape work.

We also had a brilliant trip to Old Sarum and South Wilts Grammar school this month. At Old Sarum we learnt about people of the past and that the role of the gong farmer was quite unpleasant! We then had a fun filled afternoon of Science activities.

May 2018

We've had an exciting month with our trip to Salisbury Cathedral and museum, as well as lots of sporting tournaments. during our Cathedral trip I had 4 different adults comment on the children's exceptional behaviour using words like 'exemplary and fantastic' which was so lovely. We also had lots of adult support with the trip which we really appreciated.

We were also visited by the bridge who did a day of poetry and art on the theme of Jesus. The children produced some beautiful work and got a great amount from this special event.

We have also looked at the Royal Wedding and the children became wedding planners and wrote vows, prayers and song lists as well as designed invitations, dresses, cakes and menus.

In English we've produced leaflets about salisbury and the Cathedral and combined our Literacy work with ICT, producing some very professional looking work. Following on from the bridge day we are now writing poems.

In Maths we've furtherd our knowledge of place value by investigating decimals and money and are also looking at time telling.

In Science we are just starting our topic on light and sound.

April 2018

April has been an amazing month. We had a fabulous trip to the Jurassic Coast and were blessed with incredible weather. The children were a credit to the school and really enjoyed themselves.

In English we've been writing information leaflets about the Jurassic Coast and Salisbury Cathedral. We've been working on how to use persuasive language.

In Maths we've learnt a lot about decimals and can now order and round decimals with up to 2 decimal places.

In Science we've been learning about animals, plants and how to classify them.
