Winterbourne EarlsChurch of England Primary School

‘As each one does their part, we grow in love’

Geography

Intent

At Winterbourne Earls C E Primary School we believe that Geography helps to provoke and provide answers to questions about the natural and human aspects of the world. Children will develop a greater understanding of the world, as well as their place in it. The Geography curriculum enables children to develop knowledge and skills that are transferable to other curriculum areas and which can and are used to promote their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. We inspire in children a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people which will remain with them for the rest of their lives. We also promote the children’s interest and understanding of diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes.

Implementation

Children experience their Geography learning through a range of experiences, fieldwork opportunities and knowledge-rich lessons. We strive to provide children with chances to develop the skills needed to become geographers throughout their time at our school. Our children develop their sense of place through a wealth of school trips and local area exploration. We deliver engaging lessons that teach children the key knowledge they will need to succeed in the ever changing world in which we live, giving them frequent opportunities to retrieve this knowledge so that it becomes embedded and they are able to use this to think critically about the world around them.
