‘Happy, Confident and Successful Learners’

Figsbury Challenge 2017

We are delighted to announce the return of the Figsbury Challenge.  For those who have not been involved before, the Figsbury Challenge is a race / fun run from Winterbourne Earls Primary School to the historic hill fort of Figsbury Ring.  The race this year will take place on the afternoon of Saturday April 1st 2017, with things starting from about midday.  There will also be a number of stalls, a fantastic raffle and refreshments available at the school on the day.

The day consists of 3 separate parts; a 1k run for children in Reception and Years 1-2, a 3k run for children in Years 3-5 and a 5k run for Year 6, older siblings, parents, friends, local running clubs and pretty much anyone else!

Some take the 5k race quite seriously, but the whole day is designed to be very inclusive and ideal for all ages with an option of fancy dress. It is a big fundraiser for the school PTA, as well as our chosen charities Pulmonary Hypertension Association UK and the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

We strongly encourage the children to raise sponsorship and are hoping again to secure ‘matched funding’ this year, essentially meaning every pound we and you raise is doubled. Using Gift Aid we can collect a further 25p for every £1 donated provided each tax-paying contributor gives his or her address and signature.

You can register either in advance or on the day.  Entry forms and sponsorship forms can be downloaded from or email and we will send them out to you.  Entry is £5 for all primary-aged children and £10 for all others.

Each finishing runner will receive a medal courtesy of W Carter & Sons Jewellers. There will also be T-shirts provided by Bourne Valley Nursery for junior runners in the 1k and 3k; whilst we try to ensure enough for each runner these will be given out on a first come first served basis – so please pre-register if you wish to guarantee a T-Shirt for your Junior Runners!  Trophies for winners of the various categories will be presented at the end of the afternoon.

We also really need volunteers to help on the day, for example manning the registration desk, helping on a stall or marshalling.  If you are willing and able to give us a hand, please let the organisers know at

Kind regards,

Winterbourne Earls School PTA
